// Distributed Global Edge

Global Anycast DNS Network

Enterprise-grade authoritative DNS powered by BGP Anycast routing across 23 Points of Presence (PoPs) in 6 continental regions. Every query resolves at the closest geographic edge node, delivering sub-15ms resolution, multi-terabit volumetric DDoS absorption, and rapid global zone propagation (typically 0.2 to 5 seconds).

Why Geographic Diversity Matters in Modern DNS

In authoritative DNS, latency and availability are governed by physical distance and Internet routing topologies. A true Anycast network eliminates single points of failure and brings resolution directly to client recursive resolvers.

⚡

Shortest BGP AS-Path Routing

Our autonomous system announces identical IP prefixes across all 23 locations simultaneously. Upstream Tier 1 transit providers and Internet Exchanges route client resolvers to the nearest PoP with the fewest autonomous system hops.

🛡️

Node-Level BGP Resilience

Each edge node manages its own BGP session. If a node fails or undergoes maintenance, its BGP announcement drops immediately, preventing queries from reaching an offline node and directing traffic to the nearest available PoP.

🌊

Volumetric DDoS Scrubbing

Anycast naturally disperses distributed denial-of-service traffic across the entire global topology. Attack volume is partitioned and scrubbed locally at edge hardware filters, preventing any single datacenter from becoming saturated.

// Engineering Deep Dive

Architected for Speed, Resilience, and Automation

Our authoritative Anycast cluster is engineered specifically for modern developer workloads, high-volume automated API deployments, and rapid dynamic zone updates.

01

Rapid Edge Propagation (0.2–5s)

When records are created or updated via our REST API, CLI, SDKs, or RFC 2136 TSIG dynamic DNS, changes are pushed across all 23 nodes rapidly, typically synchronizing within 0.2 to 5 seconds without waiting for periodic zone transfer batch cycles.

02

Carrier-Neutral Tier 1 Transit

Every node connects to diverse Tier 1 upstream transit providers (Lumen, Telia/Arelion, NTT, Cogent) and major regional Internet Exchange Points, eliminating routing bottlenecks and single-carrier outages.

03

Dual-Stack Native IPv4 & IPv6

Full feature parity across IPv4 and IPv6 networks. Recursive resolvers operating on IPv6-only infrastructure query our authoritative nameservers without protocol translation or latency penalty.

04

Synchronized Cryptographic DNSSEC

Zone signing keys (KSK and ZSK) and DNSKEY / RRSIG records are automatically generated and synchronized across all edge nodes, protecting client endpoints against DNS spoofing and cache poisoning.

Anycast DNS Frequently Asked Questions

Technical details regarding our global edge deployment, routing topology, and uptime guarantees.

How does Anycast DNS differ from Unicast DNS?

In traditional Unicast DNS, an IP address maps to a single physical server in one datacenter, forcing users on other continents to endure multi-hundred millisecond roundtrips. With BGP Anycast, the exact same IP address is broadcast from all 23 edge locations, allowing Internet routers to automatically deliver queries to the nearest geographic facility.

How quickly are new zones and records deployed to the entire network?

All zone updates made via REST API, MCP agent tools, Python/Go/PHP/TypeScript SDKs, web portal, or RFC 2136 TSIG dynamic DNS are synchronized to our edge node mesh rapidly, typically completing across all global nodes within 0.2 to 5 seconds.

What happens if an Anycast node experiences an outage?

Each edge node manages its own BGP routing. If a node fails or is taken offline, its BGP session drops to prevent incoming queries from reaching an offline node, and global internet routing directs resolver queries to the next closest active Anycast node.

Can I use OnlyDNS Anycast with Kubernetes ExternalDNS or ACME cert-manager?

Yes. OnlyDNS natively supports standard RFC 2136 dynamic DNS updates using TSIG authentication keys. ExternalDNS and cert-manager can update records dynamically with rapid global propagation (0.2–5s) across all 23 edge locations.
